Tight skank. Butler Riddim rolls with that early-2000s dancehall snap, crisp and propulsive, the kind of pattern that leaves plenty of room for deejays to chop up their lines. Bounty Killer’s “Staying Alive” brings the veteran weight, while Elephant Man and Vybz Cartel turn “Fish And Chicken” into the more playful hook in the set; Cartel also gets his own run on “Money Over War, ” which pushes the tough-guy talk a little further. Beekie Bailey’s “Give Thanks” adds a more conscious note, so the juggling moves between street energy and straight-up party business without losing momentum. Released in 2001, it sits right in that period when dancehall was leaning hard on lean, drum-heavy riddims and big-name voices to make a whole package feel bigger than the sum of its parts.
