Burn Dem Riddim – King Lion

By 2005, King Lion had this riddim sitting neatly in the middle of a strong early-2000s roots-reggae run, and the Burn Dem set feels pitched right at sound-system pressure: hard, militant, and geared for singers who could ride a stern one-drop without getting swallowed by it. Bushman, Capleton, Luciano, Norris Man and Turbulence all get space to work in a roots-conscious mode, while Vybz Kartel’s “Fly In The Sky” pulls the project toward a sharper dancehall edge. The tracklist keeps the energy moving between chant-style uplift and warning lyrics, with Capleton’s “Put It Down” and Luciano’s “Pavlaving Spree” giving the riddim two of its most immediate moments. It closes with the “Version, ” and that bare instrumental feels less like a leftover than the backbone of the whole cut.
