Bumaye Riddim – Major Lazor

Major Lazer’s Bumaye Riddim lands a little differently from the group’s bigger crossover singles, but that’s part of the charm: it still has that big, festival-minded charge, yet the focus stays on the soca side of the equation. The strongest cuts lean into the pull-and-push between Caribbean melody and club pressure, with Shurwayne Winchester’s “This One Is For You” giving the riddim a warm, anthem-like feel and T. O. K’s “Shell It Down” bringing the kind of rowdy energy the title promises. Konshens and Jester also fit neatly into the framework, and of course “Watch Out for This (Bumaye)” was the cut that pushed the riddim furthest, turning into a breakout Major Lazer moment in 2013. It arrived right in that period when the crew was straddling dancehall, soca, and electronic music, and this riddim captures that crossover instinct in one sharp run.
