In 2021, when soca and bouyon were crossing over more openly across the Eastern Caribbean, Fox Fuse put out Bouyon Drum Riddim as a compact four-track set that leans hard into the percussive side of the style. Jace’s “Ease Up (Outside)” and Kilogram’s “Mischief” sit alongside Scarbz’s “Wikkid” and Tandre’s “Start It, ” and the common thread is the drum-led arrangement: sharp hand percussion, clipped kick patterns, and a lean bassline that keeps the groove moving without overcrowding it. It’s less about big melodic turns than about tension and forward motion, with the voices riding the rhythm in a clipped, call-and-response way that suits the tempo.
