Smirk Riddim keeps its focus on a tight seven-track soca set, with Impulse Production tucking the instrumental in at the end and leaving the vocals to do the talking. The lineup is lean rather than crowded: Whiteboy’s “Cobra” opens with bite, Saggaboy rides in on “Redeye, ” and Sir Vival’s “High and Fly” pushes the pace without overcomplicating the groove. There’s a clean, carnival-minded snap to the production, the kind of arrangement that stays light on its feet but still gives the bass room to hit.
