BIG IT UP RIDDIM produced by COLIN FAT RECORDS 1992
Big It Up Overview
In 1992, a new dancehall riddim started to shake up the Jamaican music scene. The Big It Up Riddim, crafted by Colin Fat for his label COLIN FAT RECORDS, quickly became a favorite in sound systems across the island. Colin Fat, also known as Patrick Roberts, had already made a name for himself by producing hits for artists like Garnett Silk and Sanchez. His label was known for bringing fresh energy and catchy rhythms to the dancehall. The creation of the Big It Up Riddim was all about capturing the lively spirit of the dance. The beat was bouncy and full of excitement, making it perfect for both DJs and dancers. As soon as the riddim was ready, top artists lined up to voice their tracks. Buju Banton came strong with “Big It Up,” a tune that showed off his powerful style—just a year before he released his classic album “Mr. Mention.” Capleton brought not one, but two tracks: “Everybody Need Sombody” and “Good Loving,” showing his range as a deejay. Daddy Screw delivered “Turn On Di Heart,” adding his unique flow to the riddim. Ghost’s “Here I Am” brought a smooth, soulful touch, while Louie Culture’s “Stand Tall” became a message of strength for listeners. Each artist gave the riddim their own twist, making every song stand out. When the Big It Up Riddim hit the streets, it was more than just a release—it was a bashment anthem.
