Bar code energy. Sheriff Music’s 2012 soca set moves like Carnival road business, pulling together Bunji Garlin, Konshens, Problem Child, Serani and Skinny Fabulous on a compact nine-track run that keeps the tempo bright and the hooks built for fetes. The production sits in that slick, driving Trinidad-and-Barbados lane, with the title cut tucked in among sing-along pieces like “Alcohol, ” “Show Meh” and “Brace And Whine, ” while “Beat It Up” leans a little harder and the whole thing stays geared toward motion rather than polish. Bunji Garlin’s “Alcohol” is the one that gives the riddim its first real jolt, but Serani’s “Wine” is the track that lingers, sharp and easy to picture cutting through a crowded Carnival sound system.
