Bam Bam The Sequel Riddim – Clifford Ray Production

In 2011, when dancehall was full of lean digital rhythms and quick-hit one-riddim drops, Clifford Ray Production put out Bam Bam The Sequel Riddim as a compact four-track set with Mr Lexx, Gyptian and Mr Vegas leading the charge. Clifford Ray Smith’s own version cut sits alongside the vocal cuts, which gives the project a producer-led feel rather than just a straight showcase. The riddim keeps close to the bam-bam idea in a stripped, punchy way: a tight drum pattern, a blunt low end and enough space for the voices to carry the hook. Mr Vegas’ “Black And Proud” gives it the most direct stance, while Gyptian’s “Yea Yea” softens the edges with his smoother delivery. It’s a short 2011 dancehall entry, but the tempo stays firm and the bassline does the heavy lifting throughout.
