Out of Barbados’ 2014 crop-over season came this sharp little soca set from Beat Boy Productions, with Michael “B-Roca” Holder steering the sound into a fast, percussion-heavy lane that sits somewhere between bashment energy and carnival street heat. The five-cut lineup keeps the focus tight: Amory’s title tune opens the door, Inches leans into the cheeky party talk on “Drinks and Girls, ” and Linksee pushes the tempo higher with “Gimme Dat Wuk. ” There’s a local feel throughout, the kind of riddim made for flags in the air and speakers turned up loud, but the last word lands with Fadda Fox, whose “Pedal” has the kind of momentum that keeps a crowd moving long after the hook is gone.
