2005 was still deep in that era when reggae riddims were leaning on lean, hooky grooves and short song lists that got straight to the point, and Backanal Riddim fits right into that moment with just three cuts. Danger’s “100 Years In The Air” has the kind of blunt, rootsy title that hints at pressure and endurance, while Patch’s “Break Down” feels like the track that would’ve carried the dance with its more immediate, street-level energy. Millenium Krew’s “Lambie Water” adds a different flavor, giving the riddim a lighter, more playful edge in the middle of the set. With only three voices on the pattern, the release keeps the focus tight and leaves plenty of room for each tune to land. It’s a compact little 2005 slice that captures how these mid-2000s reggae compilations could say plenty without piling on extras.
