Home Run Productions’ 28 Carat Rhythm leans more toward a compact roots set than the sprawling mid-2000s juggling that label regularly pushed out, and that tighter frame gives the cut selection a bit more focus. Anthony Cruz opens things up with “Give It To Her” and “Thats What She Wants, ” while Capleton’s “Never Let Dem Suffer” and “Refuse To Let Dem Suffa” bring the grit, and Fantan Mojah’s “Search” adds a more reflective turn to the sequence. The riddim itself has that warm, driving reggae pulse with enough bass weight to keep the message tunes moving, and the combination of veterans like Cutty Ranks and younger voices like Natty King and Perfect keeps it from feeling one-note.
