Baby Riddim – 5z1 Productions

Ayanna La Borde feels like the voice that gives Baby Riddim its first real tug, especially on “As You Wish, ” where 5Z1 Productions frames her sweetly against a light, easy-skanking groove. That same Trinidadian unit kept the whole 2012 set tight and local, with Fireball’s “Cradle Rockers, ” Jah Angel’s “Deliver Me, ” and Zion Starr’s “Nah Lie Girl” all circling the same lover’s-rock lane without sounding copy-paste. There’s a warm, homegrown feel to it, a little rough around the edges in a way that suits the era and the scene, and you can hear the producers leaning into melody more than muscle. It’s a six-track juggling, no wasted space.
