Stein
Stein, originally known as Einstein, is the stage name of Jamaican dancehall artist and lyricist Jermaine Shaw – born 8 April 1983 in St. Thomas, Jamaica. His musical focus primarily revolves around celebratory themes, featuring polished, lively production and lyrics centered on themes of sexuality and dance. However, he also delves into more intense subject matter, incorporating elements of gun-related discussions in some of his grittier material. Shaw’s introduction to the music scene occurred at a young age, earning him the nickname Einstein from his cousin.
During the mid-2000s, Shaw commenced the release of singles and collaborated with notable producers such as Stephen McGregor, Jordan McClure, and David Hayle. Following his breakthrough with the 2007 track “Calibre,” he embarked on his first European tour in 2008, establishing an international fan base. Stein made notable contributions, including a guest appearance on Major Lazer’s 2009 debut album, “Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do.” Additionally, he collaborated with dubstep/drum’n’bass producer Noah D on the single “Killing Time” and contributed songwriting skills to artists like Bounty Killer and Beenie Man.
In 2012, Stein entered a management agreement with Caribbean music distributor Fox Fuse and founded the label New Planet Records. He continued to release a multitude of singles spanning genres from soca to lovers rock, and he also released full-length albums such as “All or Nothing” (2013), “Determination” (2015), and “My Story: The Next Chapter” (2017).
