Born Pierre Nanon in 1985 to a mother from Switzerland and Rastafarian father from the Caribean island Guadeloupe (Gwada), Cali P was raised in both Switzerland and Guadeloupe and he lived under the Rastafarian traditions. He began playing drums at the tender age of 3 and he got inspiration from the vast genres including Reggae, Dancehall, Soul, Jazz, Rock, Pop and many others. As a teen, he would also join ‘AKIYO’, his father’s band.
Apart from his excellent drumming skills, he began writing lyrics at 14. Nanon’s dancehall career kicked off in the year 2000 as an MC of the ‘Gideon Soldier’s Sound System. He recorded his first single ‘Forward’ in February 2005 on the Pow Pow Productions Label. Cali P went on to release his debut album in 2008 which was titled ‘Lyrical Faya’. He then moved from Switzerland to Jamaica in 2010 and in that same year he released ‘Like a Lion – Hotstoppa’ which was part of the soundtrack of a documentary and was recognized internationally.
In 2011 he released the album ‘Unstoppable’ which includes the single ‘Jah Rule The World’ and the album was in the top ten on iTunes in many places including the USA and Canada. Nanon released an EP, ‘Healing the Nation’ in 2014 which also topped the iTunes Reggae charts. He embarked on the ‘healing of the nation Tour’ in 2015 where he performed in Jamaica, Germany, Canada Switzerland, Costa Rica, Malta, and many other places.
