Aint No Chain Riddim – Global Flex Music

Global Flex Music tends to keep its reggae cuts lean, and Aint No Chain follows that path with just four voices laid over one tidy 2018 rhythm, but the line-up gives it a little more lift than you’d expect from such a small set. Anthony B opens with “Gonna Take You Home, ” while Jah Mason’s title cut carries the strongest pull, his plainspoken chant riding alongside Sophia Squire’s “Can’T Take No More” and Jah Izrehl’s “Get Up” on a rootsy, mid-tempo groove that leaves plenty of air around the vocals. It’s the kind of production that leans on a steady drum pattern, warm bass and a restrained guitar pulse rather than any studio trickery, so the singers have room to work the message.
