Advantage Riddim (2016) – Sufferaz Studios

Seven cuts deep, Advantage Riddim keeps the focus tight, with Sufferaz Studios lining up Marcellus, John D, Jah Tee and Boom Steppa, Dappa Slicer, Dizzy Duss and Devyus around the instrumental. The vibe is straight-up dancehall, but there’s a lean, no-frills pulse to it rather than anything overly glossy; the rhythm leaves space for the voices to do the heavy lifting, especially on Marcellus’ “Know I Can” and John D’s “Sharpe The Future, ” which both sound like they were cut with sharp street-level intent. Jah Tee and Boom Steppa’s “Hopes and Dreams” brings a little uplift into the sequence, while “Feel Di Vybz” closes things out on a more infectious note, with the riddim itself doing enough talking to make the project feel coherent without overcomplicating the formula.
