KXNGCITY Entertainment’s 2019 Kxngcity Riddim lines up eleven cuts around a lean, contemporary dancehall frame, with the label even closing the set on its own instrumental. The voices come from a spread of emerging names rather than big-ticket stars, which gives the project a grass-roots feel: Real Boss opens with “Time, ” Kxng Tyler follows with “Persevarance, ” and D’Judge’s “Life On D Edge” pushes that hard-edged, survival-mode tone the riddim seems made for. From there it keeps the momentum moving through hooks like Kingvill’s “Link Up, ” Chris Rich’s “Loyal, ” and Kan Whyte’s “Inna Mi Feelings, ” before Heavy Links and MD Kindred bring the run home. The sharpest pull comes from MD Kindred’s “We Can Do It, ” a track that leans into determination and leaves the riddim on an upward note.
