Feedback Riddim – Wmg Lab Records

A breezy 2014 reggae cut from WMG Lab Records, Feedback Riddim leans into lovers-rock territory without getting too polished, which gives tracks like Teflon’s “Your Eyes” and Empress Fyah’s “Why O Why” a nice bit of warmth and grit. Zamunda’s “Girl” and Diamond Cut’s “Ghetto Cry” keep the set grounded on the everyday side of things, while Jah Lyfe’s “Glass House” with Bettadayze adds a little extra lift in the middle of the sequence. There are 15 tracks in all, and the label even closes things out with its own version, a neat reminder that this was built as a proper riddim showcase rather than just a loose single run. Coming out in 2014, it sits comfortably in that era when rootsy, vocal-forward reggae compilations were still getting a lot of room to breathe.
