After the roots-heavy Opus Riddim, Rise and Shine came back in 2014 with Pitaya Riddim, a compact seven-track set that keeps the focus on conscious reggae but feels a little more international in its lineup, pulling in voices from France, the Netherlands, Austria and Trinidad. Queen Omega’s “It Serious” and Nuttea’s “Reggae Nation” sit alongside Leah Rosier’s sharp “Enough Is Enough, ” while Max Livio and Lidiop’s French-language “La Voix Est Libre” and Mystic Loïc’s “Firm And Strong” give the record a warmer, more melodic edge over a steady one-drop pulse; the band’s own instrumental closes things out with the “Pitaya Riddim Version. ” The release arrived on 7 April 2014 and runs seven songs in 27 minutes.
