Swagg Overview

In 2009, Black Shadow Records played an important role in shaping dancehall music. The studio, based in Miami, is known for producing big riddims and working with top Jamaican artists. Black Shadow Records first gained worldwide attention in 2001 with the “Buzz” riddim, which helped spread dancehall to new audiences. Their sound is heavy and made for the dance, and the Swagg Riddim was no exception. On Swagg Riddim, Beenie Man Ft. Busta Rhymes — Giggle brought together two major names. Beenie Man, often called the “King of Dancehall,” won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2001 with “Art & Life.” Busta Rhymes, a famous American rapper, added his own energy to the track. Busta Rhymes — Giggle — Giggle also appeared solo, showing his love for dancehall rhythms. Baby Pink — Nuh Ready Yet gave a strong performance, while Vybz Kartel — Born Straight added his unmistakable voice. Vybz Kartel is known for hits like “Fever” and is one of dancehall’s most influential artists. Assassin — Sexercise brought a sharp lyrical style; Assassin is respected for his wordplay and also worked with international acts, including Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar. The Swagg Riddim captured the sound of Jamaican yard music in 2009. It was built for sound systems, with basslines and beats that kept people moving, showing the power of dancehall at the time.
