SWEET FOR MY SWEET RIDDIM produced by MAXIMUM SOUND 1996
Sweet For My Sweet Overview
In the mid-1990s, reggae was going through a strong roots revival. In 1996, the label MAXIMUM SOUND released a special reggae rhythm project that brought together some talented artists on one classic beat. MAXIMUM SOUND, started by producer Frenchie, is known for putting out quality reggae and dancehall music from the UK, working with both new and legendary artists. On this project, General Degree brought his song "What A Ting." General Degree is a well-known deejay from Jamaica, famous for his witty lyrics and hits like "Traffic Blocking." Glamour Murphy delivered his tune "Woman Nowadays," adding his unique style to the mix. Heather Cummings teamed up with Saka Pow for "Independent Gal," giving the riddim a strong female energy. Judas came in with "Looks & Shape," while Singing Sweet sang "Save The Best For Last." Singing Sweet is remembered for his big hit "When I See You Smile," which made him popular in the early 1990s. Supercat, a dancehall legend, added "Sweets For My Baby." Supercat is famous for songs like "Don Dada" and his work with artists such as Heavy D and Notorious B.I.G. Frenchie, the producer, also included his own instrumental version. This 1996 roots session gave each artist a strong reggae foundation, making it a favorite for reggae fans and selectors even today.
