ZIMDANCEHALL RIDDIM (VOL1) – ICE N ROSES RECORDS 2014
Zimdancehall Overview
In the early 2010s, Zimbabwe’s dancehall scene was alive with the sound of yard beats—rhythms that brought people together in city streets, backyard parties, and clubs. The Zimdancehall Riddim, which landed in 2014, quickly became one of these celebrated rhythms. Its bashment energy matched the spirit of the time, giving both artists and fans a platform for expression and movement. Behind this riddim was a skilled arranger who shaped each track for maximum impact, blending traditional dancehall with local Zimbabwean flavors. The result was a collection of songs that DJs loved to spin, both for their dancefloor power and their catchy hooks. The identity of the producer remains part of the riddim’s mystique, but the arrangement style is unmistakable—tight, vibrant, and full of life. The compilation featured standout artists, each bringing their own style. Celcius delivered “Husahwira,” a track that quickly became a favorite among fans. Elcee Gweja, known for his energetic delivery, contributed “Chiremba Siyayi.” Freeman’s “Bata Ruoko Rwangu” added his signature charisma; Freeman is especially well known for his hit “Joina City,” which topped charts and helped define modern Zimdancehall. Goodchild’s “Arikundinyepera” and Gt’s “Ndabaya Ne Bag” added more layers to the project, each song bringing a unique voice to the riddim. DJs and selectors embraced the compilation right away, and even in 2021, these tracks still get played at parties and on radio. The Zimdancehall Riddim remains a key part of Zimbabwe’s dancehall story, loved for its energy and authentic sound.
