Zim-dancehall Riddims lands as a broad juggling set rather than a single-producer showcase, and that’s the point: it pulls together a cluster of Zimbabwean-flavoured dancehall instrumentals, from Braai November and Empire Attack to Mafia Reloaded and Young Soundz, without trying to smooth over the differences between them. Zim-dancehall itself grew out of Jamaica’s dancehall template but took root in Zimbabwe with local patois, Shona phrasing, and a tougher street-level feel, so this kind of multi-producer package makes sense for the scene. The tracklist moves like a selector’s shelf, jumping from Bungu and Bustop Tv to G The Cracker, Horse Power, Kings and Queens, then into The Blesser and Afro, which feels less like tidy sequencing and more like a snapshot of how the style was circulating in 2016.
