Yardy Riddim – House A Star Records

Hawkeye and Voicemail do a lot of the heavy lifting on Yardy Riddim, and that’s part of the draw: House A Star Records lines up a 2008 dancehall set that leans into the rowdier, street-level side of the era without losing the singalong hooks. Deja Vu’s “Nuh Beg” opens things with a sharp edge, while Kiprich’s “Police” and Ratigan’s “Badman Ting” keep the pressure up in the middle of the sequence. The cuts from Hawkeye and Voicemail come in both edit and raw versions, which gives the riddim a little extra swing and lets the more direct versions hit harder. By the time “Rude Boys” rolls around, Voicemail’s contribution feels like the clearest snapshot of the whole project: brisk, bawdy, and tuned for the dance.
