Xclusion Riddim – Y-Not Productions

On Xclusion, Y-Not Productions keeps the focus tight on a stripped-back dancehall groove that leaves plenty of room for the voices to cut through. Buradly’s “Talking To The Youths” sets a conscious tone right away, while Eklypse and Calado bring some edge on “Bad Fi Seh” and King Youth leans into ambition with “Rich Before Da Year Done. ” There’s a nice spread of styles across the juggling, from Flammable’s “Triumph” to Invisible J’s “Stop Throwing Your Mind, ” but the energy stays clipped and direct rather than flashy. Y-Not had a busy run around this period, and this 2011 set fits that early-2010s dancehall moment when simple rhythms and sharp hook lines did the heavy lifting. Montari closes it out with “Di Girls Dem A Pree, ” a fitting last pull on a project that keeps its momentum right to the end.
