By 2003, dancehall was deep in that tough, minimalist era, and Wood Antz fits right into it with a lean, pressure-heavy set of voices cutting across the same rhythm. Big Red’s “Sick Head” and Junior Killa’s “Certain Gal” are the tracks that give the riddim its sharpest edge, while Gunny Ranks brings a more laid-back, rolling feel on “Good Times Roll. ” Big Red here is Stéphane Joachim, a French-born artist, which adds a little extra crossover flavour to a project that otherwise keeps its focus squarely on yard-style energy. The sequencing feels deliberate too: the early cuts hit hardest, then the unnamed selections stretch the mood out and let the riddim’s darker, streetwise character settle in.
