WASSA RIDDIM produced by REGGAE VIBES 1999
Wassa Overview
When Wassa Riddim dropped in 1999, dancehall fans loved it right away. The mix had a special energy that made it a favorite for DJs and selectors at parties and sound clashes all over Jamaica. People would hear the first beat and know it was time to dance. A big part of the riddim’s success came from the artists who voiced on it. Johnny Osbourne, known for his classic hit “Buddy Bye,” brought his smooth style to the song “God Bless.” Captain Barkey, who was already famous for “Go Go Wine,” gave fans “Naw Go Dweet,” a track with his usual humor and wit. Jah Law added good vibes with “Pretty Smile,” while Marlon Stewart’s “It’s Alright” kept the crowd moving. Sister Charmaine, one of the top female voices in dancehall, stood out with “Talk Dirty,” showing why she was respected by fans and other artists. Lady G, known for her big tune “Nuff Respect,” came with “Flex Like She,” adding even more flavor. The riddim was put together by REGGAE VIBES, a producer and label known for pushing dancehall music forward in the late 1990s. REGGAE VIBES helped many artists get their sound out to the world. In 1999, selectors made sure to include Wassa Riddim in their sets, making it a true staple of the year’s dancehall scene.
