In 2024, the Walls Of Jerusalem Riddim brought a fresh wave of roots reggae to listeners worldwide. The project began with Heartical Productions, a Paris-based label known for its dedication to authentic reggae sounds. Since its founding in 1999, Heartical has worked with reggae legends and helped keep roots music alive in modern times. Teaming up with Basque Dub Foundation, a respected group from Spain known for their live dub sessions and classic roots productions, the producers crafted a riddim that bridges generations. The riddim’s journey from studio to speakers was all about unity. Built on steady drum patterns and warm basslines, the track base invited both established and rising voices to share their message. Each artist brought their unique energy. David Hinds from Steel Pulse, well-known for leading the Grammy-winning band and hits like “Your House,” delivered “Solidarity,” a song that echoes his lifelong commitment to social justice. Macka B, famous for his witty lyrics and the viral “Cucumba” song, added “No Bad Vibes,” spreading positivity and wisdom. Patrick Andy, respected for his soulful vocals since the 1970s, contributed “Words Of The Wise.” Rod Taylor, whose classic “Ethiopian Kings” remains a roots anthem, offered “Jerusalem.” Carlton Livingston, recognized for the reggae staple “100 Weight of Collie Weed,” honored a historical figure with “Marcus Mosiah Garvey.” Other voices, including Zareb with “Champion,” Neto Yuth’s “Don’t Play With Fire,” Dahvid Slur’s “Jah Never Fail I,” Rootsamala’s “Human Rights,” and Guidan’s “Walls Of Babylon,” made the riddim a complete roots experience.
