WAKE UP RIDDIM produced by FOXX LINK 1999
Wake Up Overview
The Wake Up Riddim came together in a small studio in Jamaica during the late 1990s. Producers and musicians worked closely, layering drum patterns and basslines until they found a sound that stood out. The mixing board king, known for his sharp ear, guided the sessions with a clear vision. He wanted a riddim that was both tough and catchy, something that would get attention in the dancehall. FOXX LINK, the producer behind the project, played a big role in shaping the final sound. FOXX LINK was known in the scene for his work with several rising dancehall acts and for founding his own label. His productions often brought together new artists and gave them a platform to shine. By 1999, his style was recognized for its bold, energetic approach. On this riddim, each artist brought something different. Elaine delivered “Sharper,” a track that stood out for its confident lyrics and strong delivery. Little Hero performed “Wake Up.” Little Hero was already known for his positive messages and had scored a hit with “God Alone” in the early 2000s. Perilous contributed “Sample Jail,” bringing a raw edge to the compilation. Rickey Reds added “Under My Hungry,” which captured the struggles of daily life with honest lyrics. The Wake Up Riddim became part of 1999’s dancehall culture, balancing sharp lyrics with grooves that kept the dance moving.
