WACKIES SELECTIVE SHOWCASE VOL.1 – WACKIE’S 1980
Wackies Selective Showcase Vol.1 – Wackies Overview
The roots of reggae are strong this season, with the rocksteady flow bringing deep feeling and rhythm to the music. Rocksteady, which started in Jamaica in the 1960s, is known for its smooth beat and soulful vocals. This style has shaped reggae and continues to inspire artists and fans today. The sound of this project is shaped by the legendary Wackies label from New York. Wackies is known for its unique approach to reggae production, blending traditional Jamaican rhythms with a new, organic style. The producer behind Wackies, Lloyd Barnes, also called Bullwackie, is famous for his work with many reggae greats and for bringing the roots sound to a wider audience. On this release, the Chosen Brothers stand out with “March Down B.” Their harmonies and message are powerful, showing why they are respected in roots reggae. Horace Andy brings his classic voice to “Serious Thing.” Andy is well known for his hit “Skylarking” and for his work with Massive Attack, making his voice one of the most recognized in reggae. Jezreel offers “Love Of My Life,” adding warmth and melody. Joe Auxumite sings “Home To Africa,” a song that connects deeply with the roots of reggae’s history. Leroy Sibles, who leads “This World,” was a founding member of The Heptones, one of Jamaica’s most important vocal groups. These voices together keep the rebel spirit of reggae alive.
