Short and sharp, Vortex Riddim comes in like a no-nonsense 2019 dancehall cut from J6 Muzik, with seven voicings moving across titles like “Nympho, ” “Buss Draws, ” “Bicycle Ride, ” and “Hula Hoop” while keeping the energy lean and clipped. The whole set runs just about 18 minutes, so there’s no fat on it; each artist gets in, says their piece, and gets out, which suits the hard-edged, streetwise feel of the thing. BADGETTN opens with “Nympho, ” Chavez Illmatiq keeps the pace twitchy on “Buss Draws, ” and Sicq Up closes the circle with “Spotlight, ” a final track that leaves the riddim on a taut note. Glowrious’ “Nuh Hot, ” with Index in tow, adds one of the more memorable turns in the pack.
