UZI SPECIAL RIDDIM produced by CAPRICORN INTERNATIONAL 1996
Uzi Special Overview
The Uzi Special Riddim roots anthology appeared in 1996, coming straight from Jamaica’s vibrant reggae scene. This release brought together a strong lineup of artists, each adding their own touch to the riddim’s classic sound. Colin Roach is featured with “Waiting For You.” Roach made his name in the late 1980s and early 1990s, especially with his hit “Open The Door To Your Heart.” John Mouse delivers “Please Release Me,” bringing his steady voice to the project. Vicious Irie appears with “Horical One,” adding energy and style. Ninja Man, one of dancehall’s most famous deejays, is here with “Ambition.” Ninja Man is well known for his tough lyrics and for winning the Sting clash in 1993. Chaka Demus, who later found international success with Pliers on hits like “Tease Me,” performs “Lime Tree Lame.” Other artists on the riddim include Apache Scratchy with “Ah Me,” Tony Rebel with “Short Cut,” Johnny Nice with “Gal Nah Worry,” and Blacka Demus with “Cater Fi Woman.” Each track sits perfectly on the riddim’s uplifting instrumental base. The producer, CAPRICORN INTERNATIONAL, is known for shaping the sound of 1990s reggae and dancehall. The label has worked with many top artists and is respected for its horn-driven productions and clean mixes. The dub engineer on this project made sure the riddim’s foundation was solid, with deep bass and sharp echoes that still sound fresh today. The dub cut from this release continues to echo the roots of 1996, keeping the spirit of classic reggae alive for new generations of fans.
