2017’s Unoripa Riddim from Chillspot Records is a Zimdancehall juggling that pulled together a strong local lineup, including Jah Signal, Silent Killer, Master H, Mr Fit, Ras Caleb and Fantan and Bobie, among others. The set runs deep with 24 tracks and 25 different artists, giving it plenty of movement while still keeping a clear Chillspot identity throughout. Standout cuts include Jah Signal’s Wadzoka Zvakare, Silent Killer’s You Are Go Pay and Ras Caleb’s Ngoma Riende Mberi, with the title tune coming from Ne Ganja. It’s a good snapshot of the 2017 Zimbabwe dancehall scene and a reminder of how active Chillspot Records was in shaping that sound.
