Chillspot Records usually leans hard into the familiar Mbare-to-Harare ZimDancehall lane, but Chigiyo Riddim pushes that formula into a brighter, more melodic pocket, with skittering percussion, rubbery bass and a sing-song hookiness that keeps the groove moving. The cut list is deep, but Elder Tifta’s “Afrika, ” Mc Kampton’s “Student Of Love” and Guspy Warrior’s “Chiiko” feel like the sharpest pulls, each bringing a different kind of vocal bite to the same pulse. That spread of voices suits a riddim that’s more about chantable phrasing and quick lyrical turns than heavy aggression, and it gives the whole set a community feel without losing momentum.
