Blue Mountain Records’ Twin City Spin Vol. 1 catches that late-’80s dancehall moment when a single rhythm could hold heavyweight voices and younger badmen in the same sequence. The set runs 11 tracks deep, with Cocoa Tea, Gregory Isaacs, Shabba Ranks, Little Twitch and Brian and Tony Gold all taking a turn, then closes on the “Twin City” version, which gives the whole package the proper selector’s feel. The best-known cuts sit early and hard: Cocoa Tea’s “On Top Of The World” and Gregory Isaacs’ “Meet Me At The Same Corner” bring the smooth contrast, while Shabba’s “Haffi Kill Me Dead” punches through with his sharper delivery. A Tuffest and Brian and Tony Gold combination tune also breaks up the solo run nicely. Released in 1988, the compilation has 13 unique artists across 11 tracks.
