Produced by Hugh Chris and Donovan Germain for Island, Chris and Penthouse, Time Will Tell Riddim dates to 1978 and pulls from one of Bob Marley and The Wailers’ most reflective late-70s cuts, with Time Will Tell as the anchor tune. The riddim later resurfaced with a strong mix of roots and dancehall voices, including Capleton’s Hammer Dem Down, Lukie D’s Time Will Tell, Marcia Griffiths’ Time Will Tell and Queen Ifrica’s No Love No Justice. It’s a nice reminder of how a classic Marley-era foundation could be reworked years later without losing its moody, questioning feel, and it also shows the hand of Donovan Germain, whose Penthouse imprint became one of reggae’s most reliable labels.
