Henry Lawes’ 1983 Jah Guidance issue Chanting Riddim pairs just two cuts, John Holt’s Chanting and Tony Tuff’s Dance In The Area, and keeps the focus tight on that early-’80s roots-dancehall feel. The title tune had a longer life beyond the original release, later appearing as a sought-after John Holt cut on the Henry “Junjo” Lawes-produced Jah Guidance camp. Lawes’ label was an important part of his run in the era, and this one fits neatly into that heavyweight catalogue with its compact tracklist and unmistakable classic-era sound.
