By 2005, reggae riddims were leaning hard into conscious themes and crossover-ready voices, and Kingstone Records’ The Truth Riddim fits right into that moment with a tight roster and a clean, uplifting cut. Chico’s “That’s Important” and Lutan Fyah’s “Save The Children” are the ones that hit first: the former keeps the message plain and pointed, while the latter brings that rootsy urgency Fyah was sharpening in the mid-2000s. Gentleman, Jack Radics, T. O. K and Voicemail also give the riddim plenty of range, moving it from reflective to more playful without losing the thread. Released on August 22, 2005, the project collects 16 tracks and sits nicely in that period when one rhythm could still carry both sound system bounce and social commentary.
