Cut in 2007, The Slu Riddim feels rooted in the Trinidad and Tobago soca-to-reggae crossover moment, with a compact seven-track run that keeps the energy bright and the bassline nimble rather than heavy-handed. Alpha’s “Tic Toc” and Benjai’s “Wine Like Them” set the tone early, while Farmer Nappy’s “Don’t Move” pulls the groove a little tighter and more percussive. The one-off pairing of Faye Ann Lyons with Ninja Dan on “Pani Douboot” adds extra edge, but it’s Zan’s “Super Wine” that lands as the sharpest cut here, all motion and attitude over a riddim that’s as much about movement as it is about melody. The instrumental gives the whole thing a clean showcase, but the vocal sides keep the character in the foreground.
