The Sire Riddim – Black Crest Studios

Black Crest Studios keeps this one tight and percussive, with a soca pulse that feels made for road-ready chanting and quick, cheeky hook lines rather than anything too polished or plush. The Sire Riddim, released in 2017, runs only four cuts deep, so there’s no dead weight: Mad King’s “Water Gun” comes in with the most memorable title and the most immediate hook, Vyrus turns “Champion Bubbler” into a brash singalong, and Big Raf’s “The Wining General” leans harder into the dance floor side of the groove. Big Leightz closes it out with the instrumental, which leaves the riddim’s snap and forward motion hanging in the air. It’s a compact set, but the way the vocals are spaced keeps the energy moving straight through to Mad King’s opener.
