Thaddeus Riddim – Various Artists

2012 was still a busy year for soca riddims, and Thaddeus sat neatly in that wave with a tight four-track run that kept the focus on songcraft rather than sheer volume. Steve I’s “For The Longest While” gives the riddim its most memorable lift, while Duceman’s “Hold It Up” and Nandi Lewis’ “Doh Bother” lean into the same springy, carnival-ready pulse with a lighter touch and plenty of room for the vocals to cut through. Izac King’s “Turn Me On” rounds out the set, and the whole thing moves with the kind of clean, upbeat production that was common across early-2010s soca releases, where steel-drum colour and driving percussion did the heavy lifting.
