Sprite Riddim – Karim Hype Records 2010
Sprite Overview
When Sprite Riddim dropped in 2010, dancehall fans were quick to catch on. The mix had a fresh, rebellious sound that made people want to move. Parties and sound systems across Jamaica and beyond played it over and over. The riddim’s energy brought a new spark to the dancehall scene just when it was needed. One tune that stood out was “Badman Energy” by Karim Hype. Known for his work as a selector and artist, Karim Hype brought real attitude to the track. He also delivered the “Sprite Riddim Instrumental,” giving DJs and fans a chance to enjoy the riddim pure and simple. Popcaan’s “How Mi Do Mi Thing” was another favorite, showing off the young star’s unique voice and style. Popcaan, who later became famous for his song “Only Man She Want,” was already making waves with this early hit. Predator’s “Murderah” and Shawn Storm’s “Action Over Word” kept the energy high. Spugy B gave us “Do Like You No Si Mi,” and Tony Matterhorn, already known for the dancehall classic “Dutty Wine,” added his own twist with “Madd Matterhorn.” Vybz Kartel’s “Touch A Button” was a crowd-pleaser, while War Professa’s “Subliminal Badman” brought a gritty edge. The riddim was brought to life on the mixing board by a true king of the craft, and released on a respected label. Looking back, the Sprite Riddim sound system cut captured the spirit of its time and helped keep dancehall alive in 2010.
