Soulmate Riddim (2011) – Dunwell Productions

Soulmate Riddim landed in July 2011 from Dunwell Productions, the Jamaican imprint led by Mario Dunwell, a producer who has become known for crisp dancehall juggling and clean, modern drum work. By the time this set came out, Dunwell was already carving out space in the 2010s dancehall lane with a sound that felt radio-ready without losing its street pulse.

The riddim runs as a five-cut project and keeps its atmosphere warm, melodic and mid-tempo rather than aggressive. The production has that polished dancehall sheen where the kick and snare snap hard, but the overall feel stays smooth enough for singing. It leaves room for hooks, which is why the best moments here come from the vocal contrast across the line-up.

Jahmiel’s Give U Happiness fits his early reputation for tuneful, heartfelt writing; even then he was moving with the kind of melodic delivery that later made him one of the stronger voices in modern Jamaican dancehall. D’Yani’s Let Me Know brings a youthful, lover’s-rock edge, while Konshens on Nuh Pull It Up adds the more assertive, streetwise energy that had already made him a dependable name in the era. Voicemail’s Show U The Way pulls in the duo’s harmony-heavy, performance-friendly style, and Propa Fade featuring Eva Hype gives the set a little extra texture on All U Lovin’.

It is the kind of riddim that works because the production stays sleek and the artists approach it from different angles, with the love songs and smoother cuts carrying the project’s identity.
