Soulful I Riddim – Caveman Productions

Caveman Productions’ Soulful I Riddim leans more toward warm roots reggae than the tougher dancehall gear the name might suggest, and that softer edge is what gives the 2012 set its character. Sizzla’s “Something Special” sits right at the center of it, with Andrew Tosh and G-Nius taking the sweeter, relationship-minded route on “Treating Your Woman Right, ” while Mr. Lee and Ottawa bring a more conscious complaint on “Dem Say Me Jah No Real”; I-David’s “Go Where Jah Send You” keeps the tone spiritual and direct. The production stays uncluttered, leaving enough air around the vocals for each cut to breathe, and the whole release runs as a short four-track package with six artists across the board.
