Bass Ink Productions kept the Slo Grind Riddim compact in 2012, and that economy gives the set a clipped, no-frills shape: four cuts, four voices, no wasted space. Indrani Santiago’s “Supernatural” leads the way with a sharper edge, while Benjimenz on “Want It Again, ” Koolface on “Expletives, ” and Holla Bak on “Peep Back” each ride the same framework with a slightly different attack. The riddim sits in that mid-tempo dancehall pocket that leaves room for the vocals to cut through, with a low-slung bass line and a dry, percussive bounce doing most of the work underneath.
