Slim-Belly Man Riddim – Jah Life was produced by Hyman Wright and Percy Chin and first appeared in 1987, bringing together a tight late-80s roots-to-dancehall lineup with Culture Paul’s Brutalize A Sound Boy, Cutty Ranks’ The Cutter, Joe Mannix’s Rapid Mi Rapid, and the instrumental Jah Life Time Players cut. The release also features Dickie Ranking, Lord Sassafrass, Screwdriver and Neville Lindo, and Tanto Metro, with Peter Metro’s Slim-Belly Man as the title tune. Hyman Wright’s Jah Life imprint was already a familiar name in that era, and this set captures the harder, sound-system-minded style of the period with a compact, varied selection and a dub cut that adds extra weight.
