Skateland Killer Riddim – Maximum Sound

Maximum Sound’s Skateland Killer Riddim sits neatly in the label’s 2011 roots-reggae run, and it keeps the focus on a tight six-track set rather than trying to stretch the concept any further. Alborosie’s “Jahnhoy, ” Luciano’s “By Jah Will, ” and Tarrus Riley’s “Rebel” give the riddim its strongest pull, while Captain Sibad’s “World Wide Rebellion” and Dean Fraser’s “Skateland Sax” add a sharper edge with deejay energy and live horn phrasing. The production leans on a warm, militant one-drop feel with enough bass weight to keep it rooted in soundsystem territory, and the inclusion of a dub cut under the Maximum Sound Crew name ties the whole thing back to the producer’s hand.
