Shine Eye Girl Riddim (2016) – Thompson Sound

The title itself nods to the older Black Uhuru “Shine Eye Girl” lineage, but this version is all about modern roots voices riding a laid-back, bassy cut with enough space for the singers to phrase naturally. Half Pint’s “Promise Is A Comfort” is the veteran anchor here, while Jigsy King’s “Youth Dem A Hustle” adds a sharper, streetwise edge and Tshai’s “Shine Eye Boy” gives the project its hook. By the time it lands on “Youth Dem A Hustle, ” the riddim has settled into a patient, rootsy stride that keeps the whole set locked in.
