Shine Eye Girl Riddim brings together the 1979 Taxi cut first made famous by Black Uhuru with Sly and Robbie’s lean production behind it, then revisits the rhythm in 1995 with Shabba Ranks and Mykal Rose on Shine Eye Gal. The set is short and focused, with Shine Eye Dub opening the sequence and the original Shine Eye Girl sitting at the center of the riddim’s history. Taxi’s connection to Black Uhuru was a major part of the group’s late-1970s run, and this rhythm also shows how the same foundation carried cleanly into a later dancehall-era update on Epic.
