Rose Apple Riddim – Ice-Berg Records

Rose Apple is one of those mid-2000s rootsy dancehall sets that keeps its focus on message-heavy singers and a steady, no-frills groove. Anthony B comes in sharp with “Think Dem Coulda, ” while Luciano’s “Know Yourself” leans into that familiar conscious stride, and Leroy Smart’s “Righteous Woman” gives the project a veteran touch. There’s a nice contrast too in Roundhead’s “Hempire” and Perfect’s “World Trade Center, ” which push the riddim toward social commentary without getting too stiff.
